Using KMDL® to measure the speed of knowledge transfer

The importance of knowledge as the fourth production factor grows steadily. Various knowledge transfer activities in the early phases of new product development processes that do not have direct influence on the process have been ignored, despite the fact that incorrect decisions made within these phases generate higher costs in the later phases of the development. A good process keeps its quality while improving its speed. Based on this finding we are working on a project proposal that deals with the transfer speed of knowledge in the new product development. We are examining the possibility of whether the improvement of knowledge transfer speed might influence the speed of the new product development project.

The knowledge conversions in the new product development process are to be analysed using the KMDL® and their interdependence with the identified parameters are to be represented. The validated results will be used to build improvement measures to increase the speed of knowledge transfer activities, and therefore of the new product development phases.
